[ Once in the air she puts a small force field around herself, something that outlines her body in a light pink and magenta glow. She casts a glance back to the form he's taken, scrunches her nose up, and sends a telepathic message with a butterfly his way. ]
I've never liked pteranodons.
[ Maybe it's unfair to judge all of them based on her run ins with Sauron, but really how many others are there out there? Not many.
As she ascends higher into the sky she kicks up her speed shifting quickly to match the speed of a plane as she heads towards they're destination. She could theoretically go faster if she pushes herself more but she seems more curious if he can keep up than anything. And maybe she's not entirely against the idea of him winning. ]
Man I love Sauron. "But I don’t want to cure cancer, I want to turn people into dinosaurs."
[ Yamada's eyes are well made for looking below and ahead at once, and the fascination of her form, awash in energy, is fascinating. It gives him some ideas for his energy transformation abilities, but not any he's willing to test drive right now. If his life was on the line? Absolutely. Threatening to crash into Big Ben? Maybe. Making him look like a dumbass in front of Betsy? No thanks!
His beak clatters when he laughs a squeaking laugh from her comment. He throws his voice, sounding similar to usual but with a grind to the edges, like a bird imitating a human. ]
And Yamadactyl can't change your opinion? Shame.
[ He names as many of his forms and techniques after himself as he can. One of the key reasons he took up this as a frequent form is for the gag as well as the functionality. But it's not nearly as fast as a plane, so seeing Betsy make a break for it means it's time to pull out the stops. If he had to put a number of his energy levels, he'd say he's at a decent 90%, he's only done little tricks so far today. He'll allow himself a treat.
He gives one last flap, and then snaps his wings out to the sides, totally rigid as they have become the wings of a fighter jet. His neck recedes and then juts out, now clad in metal. With a rushing whoosh of flames, he picks up speed. No flesh is left, but the shape is still reptilian, even as a fighter jet rocket mix. * Blazing flames push him to catch up, closing the gap with every passing second. He's kept some legs below, tucked in close. ]
I'm afraid very little could change my mind. Not after certain...experiences....
[ He's welcome to try and change her mind at some point though. Perhaps he'll turn her over to the idea! A light and airy chuckle rings out in his mind after a few seconds though. ]
I like that you name things. My older brother would adore it.
[ Does thinking about him threaten to make her a tiny bit sad? Maybe. But she does absolutely know that Jamie would appreciate someone who didn't take their powers seriously and gave them silly names. While she doesn't exactly look back, she does keep a psychic eye on what he's doing. Then just for some added fun she slows herself slightly, lets him catch up only to use her agility to 'swim' circles around him in the sky. Clearly she's using it as a chance to look at his form while also showing off some.
Then with a smirk she pushes off forward as Big Ben looms in the distance growing ever closer. ]
Some alternative universe out there is a Jurrasic Marvel and I wish I was there.
[ Oh, he wishes he could easily express himself. He’d love to let her know his delight at seeing her twirl around him, and the spark it thrills in him. He’s not naturally competitive, but he does like to play, and what he feels seeing her showing off is delight. After the first circle, he replies with a barrel roll, a long loop that makes it an aerobatic dance. ]
Words are such fun- why not play with them?
[ This time the voice crackles through a speaker, projected outward. It’s a true sentiment. Rearrange letters and sounds is as fun as shapes. He files away the brother for now, but he’s distracted by her pulling away. The view is very nice, for a start. But there's also his desire for their mutual showing off to continue. Having their powers, which could easily be terrifying, used as toys is delightful. With the finish line in view, he pulls another odd trick. Various energy types are fast, but too dangerous to shoot off with his lack of control. Zapping Betsy’s beautiful butt is not good flirting.
In a flash of inspiration, his mechanical jaws open to show the speaker- the sound that pours out becomes him, the vehicle vanishing from the back to the front, pulled through the speaker and shot like a bullet. The vibration he’s become washes over her, a deep bass that thrums through the air at the literal speed of sound.
And completely misses Big Ben. He returns to human form with a cute ‘pop’, having overshot, his arms feathered wings that he flaps desperately to turn back towards the clock tower top- putting victory entirely in either of their hands. ]
[ He might catch the briefest of laugh from her both in his mind and out. It's not often she finds herself smiling this much, particularly lately. The way he replies with his barrel roll gets her to do a quick pirouette, gracefully enjoying the little dance for a moment. ]
There's a fine line between fun and cringe, as the kids would say
[ Or so she hears them say quite often about certain teachers. Never her at least!
When he shoots forward and misses Big Ben she gets the brief idea that she could just finish off herself. Grab victory right there. She could even go further with it and throw up a wall to keep him where he is, preventing him from getting back to Big Ben. It might be cheating, just a bit, but it would ensure victory.
Is she competitive enough for that? Hm.
Evidently not. She slows herself down, looks over at him with a smirk and gestures with her head towards the clocktower. If he wants that date, wants that victory, he has a chance to go ahead and snatch it. If he's willing to take it. ]
[ Yamada spends a frantic moment finding aerial equilibrium, before managing to settle into a slow, broadstroked flight. He hasn't managed to get angel wing flight to work yet. It's hard, and needs practise he just hasn't bothered with.
Hovering he's better at, even when it makes very little sense, with those gigantic raven wings, stirring up wind as he approaches. Yamada reads Betsy's face, posture, even the way her aura moves. There's a quiet few seconds of wind, where his expression makes it look like she's the only thing in the world, and there's still scenery enough to keep him fascinated forever. The smile is sweeter than his usual smirks, right until there's that playful look again.
His wings pump enough to launch him high, the feathers curling around him to become an enormously oversized, flowing cape in red. It makes a fine glider, sacrificing flight for getting his arms back. He reaches out, hoping to snag her hand and bring it to the Big Ben. She won. He's not competitive. If you ask him, this was a spectacular first date, and finding out what she's going to ask for with a blank cheque is worth the world. ]
I'll give you half the profits! it'll surely be a number 1
[ A tiny part of her heart will always get a bittersweet pang from seeing wings like that. The feeling is only stirred on further by Yamada's expression, so familiar and yet so different at the same time. Briefly there's something of a wistful expression on her face before she manages to push all semblance of feelings back down. She replaces it with a smirk as she allows him to snag her hand and bring to Big Ben.
Now she is competitive and thus she realizes precisely what he's done. As she lets them drift to a landing on top of the tower she gives him a look. One that so very plainly says 'i know what you did'. ]
I'm not even certain if I want to count this as a win now.
[ Will she still count it as a win? Of course. She likes winning too much not to. ]
Triceraclops with 3 blasting eyes, Iceageman, it writes itself
[ Yamada looks pleased with himself, but also tired. A satisfaction like finishing a gym set, he wipes his brow but smirks. A lot of it is psychosomatic, mental strain becoming physical exhaustion, but that's him. ]
Yeah, you do. [ He says knowingly, dropping to sit with his legs dangling off the edge. Unconcerned by the height, even without wings. He’s low on energy, but he could still manage a landing- and no doubt she could catch him. ] Not only because of your reward.
[ Anything she wishes that he can provide. The idea obviously excites and intrigues him, judging from the glint in his eye. ]
Betsy on the other hand looks like she expended absolutely no energy for all of this. Might even look a tiny bit bored, smidgen bit irritated, and definitely like she's just forcing all those things. The way she stretches her arms up and flexes side to side just adds to the entire nonchalant act of it all.
Your confidence in that could almost be seen as arrogance. [ But she likes arrogance on men. Alas, her terrible taste knows no limits. Effortlessly she drops down next to him and taps her chin, humming as if this were the biggest decision of her life. ]
What if I want a date? But not just any date, the most exotic and fancy one you can manage. It has to top when an old flame of mine rented an entire sky-high restaurant just for us, including the band so I could sing with them.
[ She leans back, then forward, then back again, letting herself rock for a moment right on the edge. There's no concern for if she falls. Maybe it'd even be fun if she did. She's got quite the grin on her face with the request though. ]
[ Yamada has a thing for badasses, especially ones that can make it look so effortless. It encourages him to try harder. Watching her stretch certainly makes him feel some kind of energy. It shows in his eyes, and the smile at the challenge she offers certainly feeds into the cocky image she seems to like so much. ]
Rented? What, couldn't afford to buy? [ His voice wobble with amusement, his legs kicking in a way that could easily swing him off with the momentum if he isn't careful. Which he is not. ] I've no money, class and connections.
[ He says it like these are advantages, ticking them off on his hand. It's mostly true- he's spent he last decade on menial jobs just so he could drop them and move on whenever he wanted. He did grow up in a noble estate and can recall all his fanciest of etiquette, though his links to the only remaining member of that noble family is only in memories. ]
But I have the greatest motivation in the world, so I will absolutely pull something off that defies all expectations.
He could have, but wouldn't that have been rude to anyone that wanted to eat there the next night? [ The tone's lazy, blasé, clearly that should have been obvious, right? Though the edge of her lip quirks as she fights back the urge to smile. Ignoring the risks of it she bumps his shoulder, not carefully at all, and looks over at him. ]
Hmm, I think you have at least a smidgen of one of those. [ She doesn't offer which one she guesses he has. Where's the fun in that? After a few seconds she begins to kick her feet back and forth herself, maybe there's something to be said for indulging in something a tiny bit more childish. Especially since it's not a side she gets to let out too much. ]
All expectations? That's a big claim to make. Are you sure you're not setting me up for disappointment?

I nominate The ReX-Men as the flagship comic.

And, of course, Archaeoptylocke
